The Quarter of my life!! ;)

I am currently suffering from a disease which is preventing me from frequently updating this space!
Its called writer’s block….No cure has been found yet…so I trying to complete some age old deliverables! 🙂
Long back, Amrita had tagged me with this meme…so here I am! 😀

The rules –
Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged!

quarter

Here I go….

1. I have since long had this plan of going to jog early in the morning but I am told 8 am isn’t early enough.

2. I am a cleanliness freak…Wore one pair of jeans every single day, the whole of 3 semesters without washing. Yes, I freak out when it comes to cleanliness.

3. The tuffrey at the backgate of my college was the very place we visited atleast once the previous night before a board paper…for a chai…I don’t smoke…I guess, thats the very reason why we cleared all papers at first go.

4. Instrumentation & Electronics (I&E) was the stream I chose ignoring the Comp Sci seat available…When it came to campus placement, the I&E companies never came and I landed in the Software industry…was that fate?

5. The first gal I had a crush on was only 6 yrs old. So was I.

6. Had a major crush on my science teacher. Didn’t see her after school. A friend said she looks all wrinkled now…so am thinking if I should go see her or let her be like she is in my mind? What say?

7. I love speed…and I have no control over it when I drive…I have touched the 100km/hr mark on my Activa’s odometer…but dunno why am not able to break it!! Is 100 the limit??

8. And ya…I do not sing songs when I drive….I have this habit of closing my eyes as I sing…hmmmm…

9. Strumming the guitar seemed easy and that made me join the classes…As of now, am mere noise and less music!

10. This women’s day, I wrote a small poem and sent it as an online card to 50 women across the world…some known and some unknown….and I got 50 thank you notes! You can check that card HERE! 🙂

11. I love beaches…Almost every alternate weekend I go there…Love the feel of sand on my bare feet!

12. All my friends (almost) have touched foreign soil atleast once so far in life…be it for studies or for work. Though I am attached to India, I dont want my passport to die a Virgin! Let her also see the world! 😉

13. The numbers 1 and 3 are my lucky ones…The number 13 is not a lucky number for me either mainly cos I think it constitutes of 1 and 3. Friday the 13th – is even better…I have had the best of them this February and March!!

14. Speaking again of numbers, I am Konkani speaking guy and 7 is considered lucky for us…why? I have no clue…but my luck doesn’t extend beyond 3!

15. My birthday is fast approaching….and I hate that am getting older on paper….I booked a ticket yesterday to Bangalore for 30th April, with my current age…a feel good factor for that day! yay!! 🙂

16. I wanted to be a doctor and fight illness…As a S/w engg I am debugging codes…are they the same in a different way?

17. I get along very well with women…especially if they are committed/engaged/married/old/dead! The rest come and go or belong to the categories I get along with! Aila…

18.  Tension or not, I bite my nails…I dont eat them as I dont like dead fossil.

19. I love dark coffee and chocolates…the bitter taste rekindles my mind.

20. I get up before the alarm rings…I wonder if the alarm clock is there to wake me up or if I am there to put it to sleep???!!!

21. I love Keira Knightley and Cobie Smulders…they have something in their eyes, which pricks me!!

22. Books is something is which I miss reading these days…I sleep off the moment I am done with 2-3 pages…however interesting the book is, and thats dangerous!! I need to stop reading those 2-3 pages till that time!

23. I was a sentimental person for a major part of my small tennure in life….Now no more senti…just mental!

24. It’s been years since I have played volleyball and football…and about 3 yrs since I played cricket…its only Table tennis these days!! With age, the balls do shrink!

25. I complete a year in blogging externally, this month…its been so kind of all you guys to keep me going on! You commenters and readers are the real motivators! Its been nice knowing you all so far!! You are THE best!! 😀

I dont know 25 ppl to tag…so I will tag a few and leave the rest open….

Going Insane in Cyclonic Rain! :)

Bleep…a mail popped up on my screen…

It was from the HR guys…asking us to leave one hour early as there was a cyclone alert in Chennai raised for today evening.
There were murmurs and smiles around, till about the very last line was read…December 5th was the day we had to put in an extra hour to compensate for today’s let off. One said, “This mail is a mere eye-wash from the HRs….” and the rest agreed with him.

Ting Tong…a message popped on my Moto as I was busy winding up for the 5pm escape.

It vaguely read – “There’s Cyclone alert…Lets go the beach?” – it was Rahul and I went wow! My teammate was like “Are you nuts? Go home”…Aparna said “I want to kill you…and you want to go to the beach to die”…Nive was like “Paagal hey kya? Ghar ja”…and so at 5pm, I called up Rahul to confirm. 😀

On reaching home, mom called. I cut her call, and called back (“beta jab se kaam karta hey, phone bhi wahi karta hey” is her fav. liner…so I adhere to it! :D)! She was like “Its very chill here in Bangalore today, am on the train back home…heard there’s a cyclone alert there…where are you now?”…I told her that I was at home but had plans to go towards the beach side for dinner! Surprisingly she didn’t object…just said, “be careful and get back home soon”! May be she has understood that her son would do the things just the way he wants to…not mamma’s boy anymore! Hmm..

6:20pm: Its a steady drizzle…I start my Activa and head towards the beach…along with Rahul, who was waiting at the petrol bunk near my place on his bike! And in exact 5 minutes we are on the beach road, semi-wet. We park our vehicles near the Barista franchise, and head to buy some peppermints! 😀 This is when the thing we came to enjoy and experience happened…it starts to rain like crazy and to beat it all were the high velocity winds…Man, must say we both had a hell of an experience…LOVED it! 😀

I must confess that two negative thoughts came into my mind as we were battling the high speed wind + rain…1. What if some object thrown by the wind came and found us as its target? and 2. What if we step on some live current wire?…I asked Rahul about this, but the ruthless bloke just laughed at me both the times!

We were by now all drenched and soaking…had this feeling of being a sponge….we then went to Mash, a burger/sandwich/pasta/sizzlers joint located on the first floor of a building facing the beach…and the rest of the evening till I returned home around 9 15 was about hogging, chatting, meeting new guys (Rahul’s 3 roomies had dropped in) and some talks that cannot be said here. 😛

Overall, it was a mind blowing experience. 😀

That’s me on the beach facing portico of Mash, with the deserted beach in my background. The lack of light and usage of a cell phone as camera, is exactly why this photo isn’t clear. 😀

An evening of Meetings in Madras!! :)

img_2316

Its 11pm as I write this now and I just came back home after being at the Besantnagar (Bessy) Beach the whole of this evening!! Btw (esp. this is for Isd’s info) as I write this, I am listening to Haule Haule from SRK’s soon to be released movie “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” – a catchy cum peppy tune I must add! 🙂

Anyways, I got to meet a whole lot of friends today at the beach in 2 separate meets. First one scheduled at 5pm was a bloggers meet, an informal gathering of our company’s internal bloggers. Though we don’t need a reason to meet, today it was to meet a blogger who had recently moved to Chennai from Coimbatore on transfer. It was that time for some of us, where we get to match a face to the name we have known for long through his/her blog. Its always nice to get to meet the person you love through his/her writeups!! 🙂

Though the bessy beach is just 2 kms away from my flat, today I went there after 3 weeks…sad that I needed a reason to go to a place I love to go. Hmm…anyways, I loved to get half wet in the cold salty water of the lovely ocean…the bay of bengal….

We chatted for a while sitting on the sands as many unknown people approached us now and then…some offering to read our palms and some our faces, some vendors offering to sell us their products and some seeking alms. We heeded to none, as we went on and on…well, there were those moments of silence but lets not hype about that!!!

Then we went to this place called Planet M which is sort of a food court, and had another chat session (both mouth-uttering and mouth-watering ;)) for close to an hour before we all departed, one by one and slowly!! 🙂

My next meet was with a set of gals…Let me intro those with their proxy names…Didi, Secy, Bevdi and Suba (Aww…she doesnt have one…need to think one for her)!! They were hogging all this while at Cake Walk as Nive and I joined them there…Nive left for home in sometime while the rest of us had another hog-session for another one hour. No wonder we then complain about putting on weight…as the gals bitched about different stuff, I dawgged!! Woof Woof!! 😉

After the pet-pooja, we were back on the shores of the beach…with Bevdi and Suba deciding to sit on the shores, it was just Secy, Didi and me who took a long walk on the sands till the very spot where the waves touched our toes…All the way, there were some intellectual talks…some matured ones…some of the usual bitching and ‘dawgging’ and some stupid giggles. Mom called in between asking me about my beloved ill-health which refuses to leave me inspite of all the medications and precautions. She even went, “Why there when you are not feeling well?” when I replied “Beach” to her “Where are you?” query!!  Ah! you know Moms!! 😀

On getting back to Bevdi and Suba, we got into a discussion on movies…especially the scary and horror types…which led to talks on black magic and voodoo dolls…not quite intellectual, but nevertheless.
I walked Didi down to her house, main reason being the books she had asked for, which I had kept in my Activa parked near her place.

After a quick bye, I joined the other 3 for dinner at this place called “Family Restaurant”…it was our first visit to that place, and definitely our last. The place stinks…big time. It was stinking outside (some drainage leak) where we sat, but it was stinking even more in the AC inside. Sheesh.! And the service, was pathetic…the mineral water we had asked for came right at the end of the course, that we were kinda unsure if it was to drink or for hand wash! Food, well…was nothing great!

But overall it was a good evening as I got to meet a whole lot of my gang-of-friends here  in Chennai for these short-n-quick meets…and as Sukhwinder still goes on, Haule Haule hojaaye….I take your leave!! Sayonara! 🙂

Of A holiday, “Rock On”, CCD and my experience!! :)

It was early at 10am that I got up to the alarm and headed towards home. Today being a day off due to a festival (Ganesh Chaturthi) here in India, I had dozed off last night at my friend’s place in all spirits!! Chennai is facing power cuts these days…scheduled ones…and in my area its 9am to 10:30am as per the schedule. I called up my dad who celebrates his birthday today, wished him and spoke to him on a lot of things like his plans for the day, who wished him before me, who’ll visit him, whom will he touch base with, et al…and reached my home past 10:30am just avoiding the damn power cuts. I had plans to watch Farhan Akthar’s “Rock On” this noon at Sathyam Cinemas, my favorite multiplex in Chennai. So on reaching home, read the newspapers, updated all masala into the mind, got ready and headed to the multiplex…to be joined by friends (yeah not alone this time! 😀 ) just on time!! 🙂

Now to the movie…

Man…I have no words for the movie…do not dare to miss it…

It begins with my favourite song “Socha Hai”….and the story to a certain extent is about what had happened in the past…yeah 50%+ is in flashbacks…but well shot…it juggles between the present and the past…Its about 4 friends who had formed a rock band “Magik” (yeah Magic with a ‘K’…what else with a Kapoor behind the movie!! :P) in their earlier years which went on to be famous but never made it…hmmm…

Farhan Akthar (Adithya), Arjun Rampal (Joe), Luke Kenny (Rob) and Purab Kohli (Killer Drummer – KD) form the rock band and even go on to win a contract for their first music album after winning the V-Channel sponsored talent hunt. But politics, right-outta-books-ethics and real-life-attitudes make sure that they never make it to where they would have reached if they had been allowed to record what they were best at, rock music. They get disintegrated….loose touch…10 yrs pass by…

10 yrs can change a lot of things around…so it does with these 4 musicians….

Adithya, the vocalist…is now an investment banker…married to Sakshi (Prachi Desai) who is unaware of his previous rock-star image…is running in the rat race…living what he thinks is life…to be only made to realize his folly and reunite with his band by his now pregnant wife. Brilliant acting by Farhan…the rock-star image suits best on him, but he doesn’t fit the bill as an investment banker!! 🙂

Joe, the short-tempered lead guitarist…is now without a steady job….still plays guitar at small parties and get-togethers…married to his sweetheart played by Shahana Goswami (Deeksha I guess Debbie was her character’s name)…has an eight year old son…is more of a follower than a leader….emotional. Arjun has acted well, but looks artificial in some scenes…and among the 4, he has the gals drooling allover the most!! 😛

Rob, the long-haired keyboard player…is now a technician cum player who works for/with Anu Malik (of all ppl)…is single…loosing hair…and sick! Luke has decently portrayed his part…nothing artificial about it! 🙂

KD, the killer drummer…now works for his dad in his jewellary business…loves to flirt and listen to live bands…single ready to mingle…owns a jeep….hasn’t touched the drum sticks for 10 yrs…is the jester in the movie! Purab has enacted his role which is very close to his own self, but sometimes he’s overacted…seems like he’s inspired by the role of Sameer played by Saif Ali Khan in Dil Chahta Hey (DCH). But he keeps the humor quotient up and running!! 😀

10 yrs hence…they get back together, thanks to Sakshi…and the rest of the story is all about how they give their last concert together as the rock band “Magik”!! 😀

Kudos to both the female leads….Prachi and Shahana…they have portrayed their roles to the hilt…loved the facial expressions on Shahana especially!! 🙂
Kudos to the director Abhishek Kapoor….for maintaining the Rock-concert feeling throughout the rock-concert shots!! 😀
About the music….kudos to the Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy trio…loved all the songs….favorites being “Socha hai”, “Rock on”, “Pichle saath dinon mein”, “Ye tumhari meri baatein”…in that order…and the other songs too!! 😀

A must watch is all I can say….and as displayed on the 70mm screen “Do not download the music…buy the CD”!! 😀

Once out of the multiplex, the next pit stop was the Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) near the Bessy Beach…Not facing the beach we thought was disappointing…but once inside, there were disappointments all over…we ordered…the items were served at our table…AC was on, but where we sat it was close to an expresso in terms of warmth…and before I could order another coffee (have this habit of not stopping at one mug), the dude handed over the bill…but that didnt stop me…hehe…ordered for a black coffee…parked ourselves for another half hour till we were asked “any more orders sir?” which actually meant “if nothing else you need, pls be on your way out”!! 😈

We then headed to our next favorite haunt….Bessy Beach….2-3 hours we sat…at one place….and what we talked on deserves a fresh new post altogether! Moreover, this already seems to have become a long post! 😉

So would sign off, but not before saying “Rock on”!! 😀

[Pic-Blog]~ Bekal Fort, Kerala! :)

Long ago, but not so long ago (actually I did try to remember…) I had been to Bekal, a very small town in the North-Western part of Kerala. Bekal, being the birth-place of my dad…is one of the mandatory trips that my family actively takes part in…and why not, we are excited each time we visit as we love going to the fort and the vast expansive beaches over there… 😀

If anyone of you have been there, you would agree with me…but I bet you would have seen this place if you have watched the Aravind Swamy-Manisha Koirala starrer “Bombay”!

I will be sharing a few pics I took the last time I had been there!! 🙂

The fort has now come under the Kerala Tourism Department, and is being revived from its ruins…such a pleasant thing to see!! This is a top view of the fort (I had climbed the tallest construction inside the fort to capture this :P) with the Arabian sea in the background! 😀

This is the very stretch where Manisha Koirala runs towards Aravind Swamy as he sings the song “Uyire” in Tamil and for the benefit of others “Tu Hi Re” in Hindi…and man, she runs both the times!! Anything is fair in love (and war)!! 😉 Btw, I have tried singing the same song over there, and don’t believe me, but I have seen many run!!

The beautiful sea and the unending horizon…

I had waited for quite a while to click a pic when the waves would hit the rocks…Murphy waited all along with me to see that it didn’t happen…I love you buddy, on the rocks! 😀

All you can see below is the sea waves kissing the rocks near the shores…and a few bushes!! But even in that hot noon, the bushes were not left alone!! 😉

Ah! The cocunut trees…how can one miss them in God’s own country?? Lovely sight!! 😉

This spot below (in the ring) is my favourite…When the tides are high, the water splashes all over us if we stand in that ring….amazing feeling!! 🙂

If you haven’t been there, do plan sometime…its simply an awesome place! 🙂

We…She and Me~ At the Dead End! ;)

Lost in thoughts I accelerated on…
She was driving upfront; I followed, we moved on!
One look at her a month ago, I wanted to be her friend…
But for now applied the brakes, I had reached the dead end!! 😦

She was standing on the shores of the beach…
So beautiful, that she did look out of my reach!
The breeze played with her hair so lovely…
A look at her that day, made me feel no more lonely! 😀

A week ago, saw her standing by the traffic light…
She looked like the just bloomed sunflower, so bright!
Waiting to cross the road, she looked left and right!
And that day as I looked at her, mind said ‘what a sight’! 😉

Yesterday, met her by the coffee shop across the beach road…
She spoke less and smiled more just enough to take me overboard!
She passed on a chit, promising to meet me this weekend…
It was just the beginning…at the dead end!!

[Pic-Blog]~ Of just another day…

To begin with…got up (early???) morning and as usual stood by my bedroom window!
The pic below is the view from the window of my 3rd floor apartments in Adyar
I love this site every morning, especially during spring season!! This collage of leaves and flowers happens to cover the ever-busy road below….Lovely! 🙂

And ya yesterday…along with a few friends, I had been around the Besantnagar Beach here in Chennai, TN, India. It’s called the Elliot’s beach, but putting all complications aside…we prefer to call it the Bessie Beach!! 😉
Here are a few pics of that!! 😀

The structure you see in the center is the Karl Schmidt Memorial…This memorial is named after the Dutch sailor who lost his life in the process of saving a drowning swimmer.

A closer view of the memorial…sad to see its almost in ruins, with couples coochie-cooing and lazy butts lying down amidst the  wide clearly visible cracks…sigh!!!

The view of the memorial from the road…

It was cool to see the beach cleaner (it stunk the last time I went there)…though I don’t think it would remain the same for long! 😦

Can you imagine…this pic below was shot at 12 45pm…the sun no where to be seen, cool breeze, hard hitting waves…just amazing weather!! Hmmm….right time for the young couple to get along! 😉

Till next time…signing off!! 😀
