Of that Choice You Should Make! :)

It was just another Friday and I was so relieved to get back home at the end of the day. Riding my two wheeler, I had just crossed the Pallikarnai marshes that I saw a man wave a white flag thereby indicating the vehicles to move over to the newly laid road from the road we were currently on. I remember riding at the 30-40km/hr speed when I moved over to the new road and then things blanked out….The time was around 6:30pm.
Of what I remember over the next one hour is this:
I was being repeatedly asked to get on the pillion seat of a stranger’s bike, by another stranger.
I finally did that, all by myself, exactly what the stranger was requesting and sat pillion on a bike – not knowing, not asking, not bothering where I was heading to.
I remember getting down from the bike, before I blanked out again.

When I re-gained my senses next, I was on the hospital bed with the nurse asking me my name to fill out a form, mandatory for receiving further treatment. Not being able to recollect, I requested her to give me some time and she agreed.
Meanwhile, First Aid treatment was being administered by a junior doctor by the bedside. The stranger (kudos to him, for doing all that he did!) was standing beside me looking at me blankly, maybe just reflecting my expression. There were stitches being sewn on the little finger of my right hand and the other cuts on the same hand were being wrapped with antiseptics and bandages by two doctors simultaneously.
The stranger offered his cell phone so that I could call up my family and inform. I called up my mom & wife (she was out of Chennai) and though I could get to hear their phone ring, strangely none picked up my calls. After he paid my bills, I was dropped by him (again pillion ride) to my home by 8:00pm.

Only after reaching home did I come to my actual senses. I got myself introduced to the stranger as well as asked about him (and his bank details to transfer all the moolah he had spent on my treatment and medications!).
Since my cell phone was damaged during the fall, I moved the sim card to the spare cell phone at home. And then again, I tried calling up my mom/wife to inform about the incident. This time both picked the call and were at their advising best! 😀 They hadn’t received the previous call from the hospital – and I believe I had earlier dialed wrong numbers (of the two numbers, I remember)!! I left for Bangalore that night, for 3 weeks of bed rest for the X-rays revealed hairline fractures in 4 of my ribs!

Looking back, as to how I managed to not hurt myself elsewhere I decided to go take a look at my HELMET. There was a huge crack at the jaw line and skull area.
So in short, I wouldn’t have been writing this post and the posts I published since March this year, if not for the HELMET I CHOSE TO WEAR! #truestory

Life is short, just 100 odd years….Life span is shorter, just about 60-80 years….how much you want to live, is your choice.
Life always gives you two options, for every situation. The result of it, depends on what you choose!
So when you drive: Choose to wear a HELMET (with the buckle on) when you ride a two-wheeler and Choose to wear that BELT (buckled again…not hand held) when you drive a four-wheeler. Not the other option!

Drive safe and choose to live on,  for one another ride/drive! 🙂

PS: I’m much better now, though I’ve not yet started riding that two-wheeler again!! Soon… 🙂

[TEDxVIT]~Songs & Stories of a Common Mediocre Guy!!! :)

Being out of the city, I missed the TEDxVIT event but I was keenly following up with what my friend Shammeer (and his gang) was upto through his FB updates!
Shammeer – one of the main guys in the music band “Paadhai” – was one of two speakers at TEDxVIT, who otherwise sport the Cognizant tag on working days! 😉 The other one was our beloved Sukumar! 😀
Two days back, Kavitha posted about TEDxVIT (link: HERE) covering the TED talks of Sukumar (CKO, Cognizant) and Kirubasankar (CEO of “Business Blogging“) and after reading that, I wanted to know the kind of experience that Shammeer went through. So I requested him the same. And what can I say – He responded faster than the very thought that I got to approach him! 😛

Enough of me…over to Shammeer:

My Ted Experience:

I have always been this last row guy in college who doesn’t care what happens on the stage. But then, things do change and you end up on stage from where you can see your own mind-sets in the last row. 😀 I was told to be there @ 8:30am. 8:30?!!!!!!!!! I asked. That would mean, I’ve to wake up @6am to say the least. Rude I thought. But this experience was awesome, the transition from “Careless-guy-to-atleast-act-responsible-guy”. I know I cannot be playful when I share a stage with personalities of such great experience.

Honestly, first talk of the day was boring like a geography class and that’s when Sukumar took the stage. One word. AWESOME.
That’s was the first time I listened to him and I was glad to be there. His understanding, clarity of thoughts, respecting OTHER’s time – was something I wanted to learn. I hope, I will. My talk was on ”The common mediocre guy and his dreams”.

My speech excerpt:

“IDEAs are IDEAs. There are NO big IDEAs, NO small IDEAs. NO average IDEAs. IDEAs you got, IDEAs I got…IDEAs of the last row and first row got the same respect until it comes to execution. Few live with their IDEAs. Few let their IDEAs die…and there are few others whose IDEAs are stuck under the wheels of our system…whose IDEAs cannot take a wing and fly under the heat of our system. Most of these IDEAs would be the IDEAs of the MEDIOCRE…
Paadhai or me, is not a great talent…IDEA of a musical novel by itself is out of our inability. The inability and inadequacy to make a movie got us to what we can.
We can write…first time you find an IDEA…you jump…it’s like you see your girl for the first time…the happiest moment of your life…what could not be a happy time is the time you fight to marry her. You’ve to fight against the system to win her.
That happened to us…to Ranam sugam, the musical novel. Audio companies didn’t want the book…Publishing houses didn’t want the music…this is where we were stuck…It was sad that not many in our system thought of going for a merger…probably it was because of our don’t-give-up attitude and the great time we had all along, made this all happen.
So what if a common mediocre guy comes with a great idea without a never-give-up attitude? Do we always expect him to try out ideas only after he learns to develop the never-give-up-push-to-limits attitude? And what if he doesn’t? Are we okay in missing out the idea…are we gonna let the idea die in him…oh, that would hurt him!
Okay, on the flip side we cannot expect the system to be too kind for this common mediocre guy every time he comes up with an idea. He definitely needs more than that, for sure…but what we could probably do is create a platform…build  a system which doesn’t give things free, but create things for a taking…And if he wants that really badly he has to come up and take it…we just have to make things ACCESSIBLE…that is all a good-healthy system can do!
Well okay, preaching has to start from self…Paadhai would pledge to do that. So next time when a common mediocre guy comes with an idea that has something to do with a novel and music, we wanna be easily reachable to tell them what we did and help him out with whatever we can…for that execution…”

We also performed Ranam Sugam (unplugged) which got the “once more” cry from the audience. We got a standing ovation in the end which felt really good. But I thought, I could have done better. When I came home, one of my friends phoned me up and asked “How was the show?”. The first thing I said, “That girl in red was awesome, machan” Few people don’t change. 😉

And it rained…

It rained in Chennai on April 30th evening, much to all our astonishment and relief. I couldn’t enjoy the rain in peace, as I was on my way home – to Bangalore. 😀

But then I did enjoy getting dirty..some heavy vehicle splashed the water logged on the road while I myself walked into some slush and had some fun (its a different story that there’s wasn’t any other way to get out off there!!) 😀

Awaiting more rains… 🙂

A ‘cricket’ visited my home as the IPL matches were going on..was it a sign of the ‘rains’ being on the way!! 🙂

Nothing serious about it – 1

I have no particular topic to write on…I didn’t even find a photograph to cook a story on…hence this rant…no other reason…so bear with me! 😀

Oflate I have been writing poems as and when I felt like writing something inspite of having no topics at my disposal. Either I created a sad moody ambience in the vacuum space underneath my scalp wrote on the real sad situation that prevails in the island country at the south of India. Some of you guys have felt sad at my sadness while some understood the fact that I was just trying to make something out of nothing. Thanks to both the kinds of readers…your respective perspective keeps me thinking, and motivates me to pile on spam over here! 😀

Kaley Cuoco

Kids…this word makes me smile! I love them!
Times have changed, with the DNA’s having mutated big time…kids seem to grow up faster than they should, at least much faster than I did (did I? :P)…
When I was a kid, the moment the “Nirodh” Advertisement came on Doordarshan my dad/mom/whoever used to remind me to go inside and study even though I was enjoying my summer holidays! Poor guys didn’t have an option to change the channels.
As I came into my teens, it was payback time. I changed channels when different flavors of “Moods” were telecast while I was watching the idiot-box with my dad. He too had his own ways to deal with the situation…he picked up the newspaper, no matter it was today’s or even a decade old.
Kids I know, just one third of a dozen old in age…shout in hindi “Ab koi pareshani nahi” (Now there’s nothing to worry)…as the “Ipill” ad ends. Dunno where they get that from, cos there’s no such slogan in that advertisement. We all laugh at their innocence(??) but then, the times have actually changed! 🙂 Kids are kids no more! 😦

Its been a long time (7 months now) since I have written my favorite we-she-me poetry…Its normally during my train rides between Chennai and Bangalore do I pen down those, thanks to some inspiration in the nearby berths. I thought of writing one this past weekend when I was on the way back to Chennai. To my dismay, there were only men around in my coach…someone rightly said “serves you right” last night! Sigh! 😀

BTW, Chennai is getting hot and hotter day by day…being perennially hot, can Chennai be considered to be a “She”? 😛

PS: This post is labelled part-1 just to make you plead and comment ”pls don’t write such rubbish ever again”! 😀

PPS: In the above pic, its Ms.Kaley Cuoco – my lovely ‘Penny’ in the latest Sitcom, the geeky “Big Bang Theory”! 😀

Of Plans, Phone-Calls, Painful Rains and Photos! ;)

The plan was on…
…till it rained!

She had called me up last Tuesday…saying she’ll be here on Friday evening…to spend sometime with me, cos she missed me (She didnt tell me that, cos they never tell that)!!
I tried telling her that its ok if she was busy…but she insisted on coming down to Chennai! I giggled to myself “How hotter can Chennai bear to be?”!!!

When she called me up, we had a small chat cos she didn’t let me talk…at all.

She: Helloz…
Me: Hey…I was expecting you to mail me!
She: Mail? Huh…Listen…
Me: Temme…
She: I am coming down to India this weekend.
Me: Wow…
She: Listen…and I have booked my trip to Mumbai via Chennai.
Me: Hmmm…
She: You are not excited? why hmmm?
Me: I was listening as..
She: Whatever…you guys…I can never get to understand…
Me: Err…and so…
She: Listen no stupid…I’ll land on friday late evening there and then lets go on a long drive…
Me: Till Mumbai? I have to ask my manager for le…
She: Isshhhh…you and your whatever…when will you learn to live on your own terms?
Me: Err…
She: I’ve an evening flight on Saturday for Mumbai to catch…so engage me till then will you?
Me: That would be the shortest “engagement” ever…
She: You and your stupid PJs…get over it, will you?
Me: You don’t like me the way I am?
She: Now don’t play that emotional card ok? Come to the airport on friday evening…and you know, I hate to wait. Bye for now…catch ya…

With the Friday fast and furiously approaching my productivity at work was at its lowest best. Pls don’t tell my manager…he’ll get to know anyways…am just preventing you from doing sin!! 😛

Friday noon…my phone rings…its her again!! 😛

Me: Hey…
She: Helloz…I heard its gonna rain there tonight…so I am thinking if I should come to Chennai…
Me: Eh! Don’t tell me you watched the Doordarshan weather report!
She: No…my astrologer cum numerologist…he suggested that for my career to shine, I should avoid rains…and he’s sure that its gonna rain in Chennai tonight….
Me: Err…It’s boiling hot here…it wouldn’t rain tonight even if you pay your fortune to the dude up there!
She: But I cannot go against my astro-numerologist…what if it rains tonight there?
Me: I’d go and steal raw mangoes from some garden if that happens!
She: Don’t forget to send me the photos and pls smile in them! You know how much I like your smile!
Me: Eh…Smile?
She: I’ll miss your stupid PJs.
Me: Err…PJs?
She: Ok chalo…take care…bye…

The plan was gone…
…and it did rain!

I called up my younger cousin…who’s very mischeivous…yes, so unlike me!! Thank you! 🙂

Me: Hey…
Cuz: Hello dude…How come you called me? In trouble?
Me: Err…just to say a Hi!
Cuz: I don’t think so…spill it out…
Me: Hmm…err…do you know of any garden where I can steal raw mangoes?
Cuz: Oh yes…when do we go?
Me: “We”?
Cuz: Ofcourse…I love to steal raw mangoes, and especially the look on the garden owners face.
Me: Eww…you got weird taste man…
Cuz: I know…one more thing!
Me: Err…whats that?
Cuz: My mom will join us too…
Me: Err…anyone else?
Cuz: Dad is out of town…so no.
Me: Thank god…I didn’t know this was genetic!
Cuz: Pick us up…sharp 11:45pm…best time is at the stroke of midnight!
Me: Do you have an astro-numerologist too?
Cuz: Err…what?
Me: Ok nothing…see you later! bye!

And this is the picture that I emailed her:

Titbits! ;)

Let me talk some sense before I go ga-ga: Happy 59th Indian Republic Day! Its not just a holiday! Mind it! 🙂

Now back to nonsense! 🙂

vodka_nokia_wh

Titbits – I am wondering if this is actually a single word, or…you know….

Had been to Saarang (IIT Madras fest) yesterday – read this in their Newsletter about the JAMing session that went on – “Women are like Kentucky Fried Chicken…when you are done with the breasts and the thigh, you are left with a greasy box to put the bone in!”

Celina Jetley – you know her? – sheesh – ok well…it seems she’s single and ready to mingle…any takers?
If (yes, if and only if) you look at her face and the make up it carries, I bet you would run away – else you’d blog about how it went! 😉

“All Men are Bastards”…is a world famously acknowledged quote, atleast in India!!
I’ve seen women go “Oh yeah…they are indeed”….and then a little later, they just go “Oh yeah…Oh yeah”!
Fact of life you see! 😛
On the other hand, Men nod their heads not knowing what else to B! They know at least one woman will like them that way! 😀

Rahul Gandhi I heard is in no urgency to give up the most eligible bachelor’s tag. I’ll wait for only a few more yrs, Mr. Gandhi…else I’ll wait to see another bachelor PM! 😆

Osho had this opinion – about ‘the-four-letter-word’ – that it was the most beautiful word in English…and that it clears the throat if said loudly, early in the morning! I’m saying this as its just a Fact U Can Know!

Got to know from a colleague that women in the US are complaining about – ‘Just 6 women being in the 21 member strong cabinet/team of President Obama!’!!! Just 28 odd percentage! Obama needs to know how to please women on a whole…and not just Michelle!
BTW…I have no doubt that our Mayawati, Mamta di and Sonia ji are the force behind this campaign! Soon we would be seeing a “33% reservation for women bill” proposed in the US parliament! 😀

I love women…they are the innovators (and ok, creators too)…they are upto some innovation or the other giving me hopes of a new business in future! How?
Well…2 of my juniors (guys) in college have got married…Now they are calling me up to get some marital advice! (yeah from me…of all ppl…are they nuts? :D)!!
The first thing that flashed to mind – Let me start a consultation firm! And second – How much do I charge them for such unasked consultation?
First and free advice I give to all unmarried males – Never marry before your senior in college (whom you are close to) does! Else he’ll charge you (pun intended)! 😛

A journey into this year….

31st Dec’08: I had to catch an early train to Bangalore, my hometown. As I headed towards Chennai Central on a MTC bus, I had a sudden realization…Three years had passed by since I came down to Chennai! Phew…how…err…
…I was now being tapped on my shoulders by a man in his early thirties, who was sitting next to me…

He: I am going to Warangal, you?
Me: Bangalore…
He: Bangalur, Kar-a-nataka-waaa??
Me: Yes. Warangal, Andhra na?
He: Yes yes yes, Aaandhra Pardesh wonly…my birth place.
Me (with a smile): Hmmm…nice.
He: I know little little Englees…learning only from talking taking.
Me: Good…that is how one learns the best.
He: What is your name? My name is Madhukar.
Me: Sreeram. Nice to meet you.
He: Nice nice nice. You in Software-a?
Me: Yes. Read the company name on the bag, didn’t you?
He: Yes yes yes, a little Englees I can read. Me a Welder, I do welding.
Me: Hmm…good…
He: You travel on bus always, or because of recession?
Me: Err…

Though I took the bus as always to the station, that question stumped me. How aware was he of the on-going situation inspite of his knowing “little little little”! Phew…

vogue

I reached the station an hour early before the train was scheduled to depart…I sat down with a cup of coffee, going back down the lane picturing how things shaped up at work or otherwise in the last 3 years. It wasn’t all that creamy…most of the time, I had to settle for the cake sans the icing…there were some who liked just the icing! 😉

I took my seat on the train…and as it moved away from Chennai, I had lots of time to do a retrospect on the year that went by.

The third year had its share of ups and downs…the ups were surprising and memorable…the downs were unavoidable and forgettable…The number 3 once again proved lucky to me, as I stepped up the ladder with a promotion last June…it was unexpected mainly due to the sheer number of peers who were in contention. On the other hand, most of my batchmates and friends moved out…either out of Chennai or of the Company on the pretext of transfers, studies and change-overs…

Compared to the first two years, I sadly feel that I have lost all my luck this year whenever I travelled from Chennai to Bangalore (and vice versa)…its been only ailing adults and wailing kids in the vicinity of my berth…God knows what happened to the normal adults and the 20+ whatever damsels…Hope things fall in place this year. Btw, am travelling tonight back to Chennai…Fingerz Crossed! 😉

As the train approached Bangalore, I was tapped again on my shoulders…it was a well built manly Transvestite in a saree who  brought me back to reality. I smiled at him/her/that, but he/she/it wasn’t interested in my smile…With hands being clapped like the beating of drums, that person with remains of pan-beeda all over his teeth then asked me for money…With music still playing in my ears, I shook my head sidewise indicating that I wasn’t interested in funding nor feeling pity over his genetic confusion. He blurted some abuses and left the scene to tap some other sleeping shoulder. Now do I feel bad about the abuse which I didn’t get to hear, thanks to the earphones???!! 😀

Anyways, I reached home hoping that the year ahead will have many more memorable moments in the pipeline! 😉
And also, a very big thanks to each one of you in this virtual blog world for being a part of my life…It wouldn’t have been what it is, without any of you! 🙂
