Rapchik Rants!! ;)

image010

There are somethings in life that are very important to know..and on the other hand, there are my posts…All I do is rant, ramble and anything not even remotely close to rocket science!! 😛

Well…as a matter of fact, I had been busy all this week to think of something to write…now my friends will never believe that I can get busy, especially with work that is…but they will also not believe that I need some free time to think of something crazy to write…else as you have seen, I write condolence like posts like the one I wrote about Saurav ‘Dada’ Ganguly…some were even kind even to mourn..err…comment!! 😀

Anyways…all said and done, today I decided that I will post something or the other and fill some server space with my junk..!!!  Well…let me update you about the going ons in my life, assuming from my vacuum like top floor that you guys are interested to read it…

1. In the building that I live in, there are 2 flats and a terrace on my floor…apart from the 2BHK flat that I live in, the other flat is a PG (Paying Guest) for gurrrlls…8 of them altogether…Now thats all ok..nothing much happens as the owner of the PG I heard is a very rugged person (still not sure if that one is a male or a female…sigh!)…anyways, coming to the point…Every morning as I get up quite early around 8, I have this habit of picking up the newspaper…and the first thing I get to see on opening the door are the under-garments of the gurrls hanging on the first string facing my flt in the open terrace…what a way to start the morning…sheesh…now you can guess how I know there are 8 gurrls in there!! I hate myself!! 😉

2. Jerry in the last 2 weeks has grown big…saala…what he eats everything that we leave in the kitchen at night…even water bottles are not spared….He (or is it she?) doesnt come out of the kitchen, mainly because 1) we close the kitchen door when we are not using it and 2) we are always outside the kitchen making more noise than any other kid in the neighbourhood! Today I was singing aloud a customized song “Here’s the party tonight”…as an invitee to Jerry…Mortein rat kill, is the delicacy tonight for our uninvited dear dost!! RIP! Hmmph!!

3. How about having a set of parents who go morning to evening (say on a holiday) like – Get up you idiot, its 6am…Be on the table by 7 30am, else no breakfast…No using cell phone at home in the morning…No watching TV….No surfing the net…Ah! you read books in daytime, what a waste of time…Its 11 30 am, come for lunch…hey no singing in the house at noon…No sleeping, its just 2pm…OMG, its 3pm go take a nap…Hello its 4pm, time for tea…No internet now…Want to watch TV? gimme the remote….No listening to music after sunset…its 8pm, dinner time…ok surf the net, but only till 9 30pm…its 10pm, go to bed – phew…I may be exaggerating, but I have a friend who’s parents use 80% if not all of the commands that I have stated…daily and religiously!! My friend, god knows how was born and bought up…a total opposite of the parents…all credits and hats off for still managing to survive in that environment!! Phew!!

4. I am not writing CAT this year…no worries, as anyways IIM is not suitable for someone like me…I can’t deal with pressure as I am of the happy go lucky types…someone would someday be grateful that I decided not to write CAT and inturn helped someone who deserved to get into IIMs one competitor less!!! Why am I not writing? Well, my cousin is getting married on Nov 16th at Mangalore, and my CAT center is Bangalore…the distance (360 kms) and time wont allow me to be at both places on the same day! And CAT happens every year, not that marriage!! 😀

5. I am travelling by train tomorrow night…a direct one to Mangalore…16 hours journey from here…and I have no hopes of a PYT (pretty young thing) being even in the vicinity of my berth…I dunno whats wrong with me, but almost since a year whenever I train travel (usually 4 rides a month between Chennai and Bangalore) no PYT seems to be visible on the railway chart near my name!! Its always someone who is like 60+ and if its a woman, she seems to be no less than 65+!! Sigh!!
But I can’t hide the excitement of train travelling….being an optimist, am expecting some YT at least…P is no longer the criteria….Beggars can’t be the choosers, can they?? 😦

Well…lets see what happens…

So my dear friends, I will be off the Blogging circuit till next wednesday!!  Miss me, and not my posts (they are worth less…not that I am)!! 😆

LIFE…and its tit-bits!! ;)

With so many little things happening around, I feel sorry for life…cos it never gets a chance to take rest! Sigh! But I know, its not complaining…only humans like all you guys (I don’t even dare to count myself) got all the rights to crib…ok, I crib too…Ah! That makes me feel so mortal…hehe…

A few ‘tit’bits that now come to mind, as I go about leading my life…

1) I am a Barack Obama supporter…dunno why…he doesn’t even have a hot vice-presidential candidate by his side, I know…but it proves that am no racist…wait a minute, am no white either. One strong reason may be, Barack reminds me of Arrack – the local toddy – which I never have had nor will have! Sheesh, who wants to try something that looks and smells like phenyl mixed in water?!!
Latest way of showing my support to Obama was me replacing my (over) usage of OMG! by OBM…which goes – Oh! Bah! Mah! – Believe me, he’s worth those exclamations!! 😉

2) It’s been a few years since I have turned major (in age only) and have got my rights to vote…I see these ‘Jaago re’ Ads these days, which reminds me that I haven’t voted for nuts…exactly…who would want to vote these nuts?? I vote for one today and before I get back home I get to know of another election in the waiting! In India, I feel exercising one’s vote is more of an addiction than a duty. And let me for now say, I am away from addictions!! 😉

3) Anil Kumble announced his retirement today at the end of the third test against Australia. To the tall leg spinner from my hometown, who never spun the ball…SALUTES! 🙂

4) Now what does the word ‘pervert’ mean? Is doing something which is natural, “being pervert”? For instance, if I look/talk/stare/compare/describe/ogle/drool/mentally-measure (at) a gal who is passing by…makes me a pervert…sheesh…and if I do the same thing when a guy passes by, does it make me a saint?? All said, I love being (and called) pervert!! 😀

5) Food for thought: We need to replace the BULL in front of our BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange) with a mannequin of at-least a semi-nude dudette if not a completely nude one (against our Indian culture, if you remember)…even an Eeesha Deeeool one would do….we somehow got to stop the meter from “going down” as and when the SenSex trades. 😛

6) I have been reading this book…like for months now…its interesting and all, but I’m not getting the right mood (err…) to concentrate and read! Went to a friend’s house and asked her to lend me ‘Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand…She said, “I bet you’ll take a year to finish that one…”…and looking at the 500+ page book with miniature fonts, I affirmatively nodded before uttering “small fonts will put more pressure on my eyes, so sometime later”! Not a valid reason I know, but nevertheless.

7) The most common thing we friends buy as gift for a birthday is a book and how do we select the book? Well…say for instance I have to gift someone close, a book…Then…I think of the book which I have planned to read in the near future…and Bingo!! I get it packed and gift it to the friend and while doing so, I reserve it in advance with a “once you are done reading, let me know…”!! And believe me; my friends have exactly the same mindset…F.R.I.E.N.D.S after all…the result of this – well – All your favorite books are owned by your friend and vice versa!! 😀

8) My Motorola Razr V8 turns ONE tomorrow…No major celebrations have been planned…just a plain simple wish, and thats it!! The last time my cell phone turned ONE was tomorrow, last yr. I was in the same jubilant mood as I’ll be tomorrow and in the process happened to toss my Sony Erickson K700i in such a manner and direction that it landed straight in my restroom bucket, which was full to the brim!! Pollllppppp…it drowned to hit the plastic bottom…and was declared dead on arrival at the nearest service station. It looked so fresh and good post death that it was proved to be worth 2500 bucks during exchange. May it rest in peace! 🙂

9) Too many cooks spoil the broth, said someone…and it’s being proved right at my flat…We are 4 of us, and we come together from 4 different ways of life…one a typical Tamilian, one a typical Kannadiga, one a typical Muslim and one a very typical alien, ME!! If one of us cooks, the rest eat without complaining…they think ‘oh this is how he and family like their food to be’! If more than one of us get together to cook, it gets to the crap and loads of cribbing happens…one finds the salt less, two finds the spice more while the third fella declares to take over the kitchen next!!

10) I am done with all that I had in mind…but somehow the mind said, ‘Stopping at 9? You gotta be kidding me!’. It made me think for a while, as to what else can I put up here that has touched me so much…Then it stuck…I’ll tell you about my latest addiction…no, not sighting gals…not beer too…common, those are now hobbies…My latest addiction has been watching err…no…not THAT either…it’s been watching “How I met your Mother?”…it was Prison Break and Heroes prior to this…but the latest one has made me behave like Barney, the loon, fall in love with Robin, the hot news reporter and follow the life of Ted Mosby, the architect. Hope one day, I’ll be able to tell my kids…how I met their mother! 😉

So my friends, till life continues to play on…I will write on…waiting for more to happen…till then, Alvida!! 🙂

An insensible drag of a sensible tag!! :)

Preeti tagged me some centuries ago, and since there were some wiring problems in the wireless section of my non-existing nervous department I went totally sane and it seemed an inappropriate situation and moment to pay heed to this tag. Nevertheless, the (dis)connection has been restored now and all hell has broken loose.
In short (circuit), I am now going to complete this tag in my own sensible manner. 😀

The tag:
Two questions in each category answer them and then tag your friends from the blog-o-sphere. (Simple enough right?)
Leave a comment on their blog letting them know they have been tagged and you are all set.

So here I am… Opening wider an ever open mind….

Yesterday
Your oldest memories

My memory is strong when it comes to remembering the names of gals…When it comes to other matters, I cannot assure it to be as authentic!! 🙂
1) Junior school (On each day of me attending 2nd grade: 1991) – I used to love running behind MahaLakshmi…she was a cute mallu…those kajal/surma clad eyes even to this day I can visualize….her smile, made me want to brush my teeth daily…the cocunut (yuck!) oiled hair, used to make me go deewana…and I felt that I was lucky enough to be her friend, to run behind her while playing chor-police…I was always the chor who couldn’t run faster….who wanted MahaLaks to get tired? and why on earth wouldn’t I have liked to get caught by such a cute (‘hot’ was not yet in the syllabus then) policewoman…!! I now wonder as to who she is currently running behind!! MaLaks, if you are reading this…I bet that I still can’t run faster than those days…and ya, I brush my teeth everyday and not just eat the toothpaste!! God promise!! 😀

2) Pre-high school (5th grade: 1994) – It was a 5 minute leisure period…there used to be 6 vacant seats available on the merry-go-round for (25×4=100-48 gals =) 52 boys to catch…ok, let me cut the crap…only about 20 guys were interested in this deadly (read: stupid) dare…so these 20 would run to catch those available 6 seats under the watchful eyes of 4-5 birdies (the special ones)…the unlucky ones would have to push the merry-go-round….ofcourse, what a shame! 😀 On that D-day, I was lucky enough…and when the bell rang indicating the end of the leisure period, I got up to get off the still rotating merry-go-round only for the nail beneath the seat in front of me to poke and rip off flesh of the area just above my right knee cap. Ouch! I didn’t know what had happened…It was only when the birdies fluttered, and my cousin (who was in my class) pointed out, did I see my bloody leg and realize what had just happened.

3) High School (8th-10th: 1997-99): We had a Science cum Mathematics teacher, Salma (Miss, if you are reading this – you are the reason why we cleared high school with flying colors…rest of our antics were all were to hold our concentration intact! :D). Our day started from the time she was dropped by someone (her husband, but those days we never thought of him as her ‘woh’…how could our “Miss” be a “Mrs”?) on a scooter, till she was picked by the same one in the evening…Be it her perfume, her accent, her lecture (ok, her lips moving), her smile when we wished her…maasha allah!! 😀

4) Pre-university college (1999-2001) – I was (wantedly) admitted into an all-guys college…but being surrounded by 3 all-gals colleges didn’t allow me to feel less wild…So it was down the Brigade/MG/Residency roads of Bangalore that me and my friends learnt our most useful lessons in Biology, esp in Human Anatomy!! 😀 During this period, names were not asked…Whats in a name after all?
One gal looking straight into my eyes, had sarcastically dared to utter “Nice hair” refering to my all-curled Sachin Tendulkar like hair…only to be instantly asked “Where?”!! 😉

5) Engineering college (2001-05): Can’t pick a single gal…but there was THAT one!! And every moment around her, was like breathing in that vital oxygen…which moment can I choose? Each one is etched in memory!! 😛

What were you doing ten years ago?

Hmmm….in 1998, I was busy preparing for my 10th grade board exams…I played Truth-n-Dare for the first time on New Year’s eve at a friend’s place…And ya, I was slapped by a cute gal during one of the dares. Happy?? 😈

Today
Your first thought in the morning

It’s 12:10 am as I write this now…So in the last 10 minutes this morning, I was thinking about the truth-n-dare fiasco…why she slapped? how she had slapped? What the slap had done to my cute cheeks? How the touch of her hands would have felt then? And finally what my reaction would have been? All in 10 minutes flat!! But she will be remembered…till the last breath!! 😉

If you build a time capsule what would it contain?

My laptop…a broadband connection…a few books which upgrade themselves after I am done reading…my old diaries…my dear and near ones…my friends…CCD wala vending machine for those thick dark cups of coffee…Series in DvDs like Friends, Prison Break, How I met your mother?, Heroes, American Pies, et al…Lots of chocolates…Health…Peace…Satisfaction…and loads (and cases) of high “spirits”!! 😀

Tomorrow
This year…

I wouldn’t want to be more geeky than now…
I wouldn’t want to be more sane than now…
I wouldn’t want to be in the same job, city, state as now…
I wouldn’t want to be a year older than now…
I wouldn’t want to be single-n-happy-about-it as now…
I wouldn’t want to be in a position to re-write the above 5 points like now!! 😀

What do you see yourself doing 14 years from now?

Well…thats like 2022…added comes to 6…which is a multiple of my lucky number 3. So the year would be good I hope!!!
I would be like soon entering my second teenager year…forty-een!! 😀
Possibly taking piano classes with my 11 year old daughter…surely singing duets with my beloved…mostly bald, hip and happening…hopefully some growth of gray cells is reasonable from my side to expect…Crossed fingers, praying to be healthy with no non-curable ailments like BP, Diabetes and likes…With well developed senses of humor!! 🙂

I tag:

ISD (My ever dependable International tag bearer!!) 😛
AKB (This is much better than the last one I gave you…since u did that one, I hope u do this too!!!) 😀
Arun (Sketch the tag matey!!) 😀
Suj (The once-in-a-blue-moon blogger…get enlightened with this one!!) 😉

Rants of a Vegetarian Butcher!! ;)

Mind had been blank for the last couple of days and hence I was finding it difficult to write or compose something down just for the mere lack of ideas…thought I will pick some tag that’s lying in many of the blogs that I religiously follow but then life plays this trick on you wherein you like it or not, it ends up giving you something to write about…

Well..

.

1) Of late, thanks to the inflation we guys have started to cook dinner at home…yippee! Homely food so you may think…but no…It’s just food (edible of course) cooked at home…we have managed to learn and decently cook about 5-6 dishes, apart from the variety of rice items that we can make. But still the homely food that any of our mom’s would cook is far far better than our food cooked at home…one thing our food does to us, is controls our weight (we use minimal oil) as well as the disappearance of the few remaining coins in our pockets!! 😉

I basically end up doing all the vegetable chopping…ya am the “vegetarian butcher”…and due to over exposure to the brutality of chopping the vegetables, my eyes have either lost their sensitivity or have become terribly confused. For instance, I was butchering the onions and my eyes act perfectly fine…and after the onions were done with, it was the turn of the potatoes…what do my eyes do now?? They get over sensitive, over burdened, over loaded and cry…yes, the tears of a ‘vegetarian butcher’s joy’!!! phew! 😀

Cooking tip: Look into the eyes of the onion as you chop…it wont make you weep!! You peep, you weep!! 😛

2) Yesterday late night, around 12:30 I was busy watching a movie called “Dirty Deeds” (no…no…no…it’s not that kinda movie…pls :P) with the lights on (see I told you, it’s not that kinda reel) and what do I get to see (not on the screen)…Jerry…yes a mouse, a rodent…running happily on the floor of my bedroom…Now since I was one brave soul, I didn’t yell my guts out…I just ran out of my room to inform roomy #1 who was sitting in the hall, surfing…the hot news made him climb up his chair asking me “Where? Where??…How big? How many??”

His immediate action made me ignore him and knock on the bedroom door of my other 2 roommates…they were thankfully awake and didn’t cry foul…Roomy #2 joined #1 on the chair…but roomy #3 was one brave soul who immediately came with a broom in hand (I still feel like he slept with a broom in hand…if not, where the hell did he get it from?) asking the same “Where? Where?? How big? How many??” as if he was going on a hunt! 😛

#1 and #3 were so alike, yet miles apart…

Commander #3 and myself entered my room with a broom each in hand and ready for the kill…but I guess our Jerry had got enough time to escape from us, the Toms…He lives to see another day…probably more…

PJ time: What will Tom be called if he keeps looking here and there for Jerry?? – A peeping Tom!!

3) Today evening as I reached home from office past 8pm and closed the door behind me, I heard a knock. I opened to find my high and dry (not drunk, but definitely dry) house owner in front of my eyes…Being terrified, I said something which I should not have said…I said, “Come in, pls have a seat sir”!! OMG!!

He royally comes in and sits…just like an elephant does in a circus, on command from its ring-master. Only difference is that this dude of the 60’s doesn’t have a trunk, and ya a tail. Rest all are the same…big ears, protruding teeth, big bu*t and an indifferently big mouth!!

All his features are don’t matter much…The only and most annoying thing he does is talk with no fullstop, ask questions non-stop and park his base for an indefinite timing.

He tells me that he came cos it was raining outside…I didn’t know where outside, as outside my window it wasn’t raining for nuts! Hmm…my bad day I assumed. Nah! I was sure!! 😦

He starts off with a “Why is the stock market falling, when the tomato prices are rising?”

The best thing about him is that, he needs an answer to his questions…right or wrong, is never a concern. Initially I used to struggle to think of answers…but one day he himself gave me a clue by saying “Say something son”!!

I answered him with a “Tomato prices are rising cos the fuel prices have gone up…and stocks fall when crude oil prices increase”…am not sure even now if I am right…but he was ok with it!! 😀

I am meeting him today for like the 9th time in my 9th month in this house…and today he asked me my name, for the 9th time…then asked me my cell number…ya for the 9th time…the company I work for, yes 9th time again!!

But I have learnt the game…the hard way of course, but learnt nevertheless…

I asked about his daughter (“and sir, u said her name is??”) for the 9th time…I know he hated when I asked that, for the 9th time…I asked him about his son’s bank profile…9th time of course…got to know it’s the 2nd largest bank in the world for the 9th time…but I doubt…again for the 9th time…phew, and the show will continue I guess…hehe

Finally after about 2 hours…of which he brainwashed me for close to 90 minutes…he watched TV for 15 minutes…and also read the newspaper for 15 minutes before asking me “Can I take your leave??”…I was like “What? Now what does he want to take away?”…He understood that I didn’t get it, and so clarifies with a “Shall I leave??” and I smile big time with “Ofcourse, ya ya…pls”…and the mammoth disappears!! 😀

Food for thought: Life makes us experience all that we don’t ask for…yet we crave for something we don’t have…Hmmm…

A week that wasn’t…

One week I went away on a break and it seems like things went all wrong all over…I didn’t expect the world to be a different place altogether.

Last Saturday evening, I left for Mumbai on a week long vacation not for any occasion/function but just to get in touch again with an old habit of visiting my cousins there. Till about the time I joined work, I used to visit Mumbai every year without fail. But in the last 32 months this was just my second visit, the last time being a short visit of 2 days to attend my cousin’s marriage. So this time I decided to take a week off and along with my sister visited the city that never sleeps, Mumbai.

But hardly did I foresee that the world would be a different place in a week’s time. On landing in Mumbai on saturday night, we were welcomed with the news of serial bomb blasts in the capital of India, New Delhi. On reaching home, this was the topic of discussion among us all…my aunt (mom’s sis), uncle, uncle’s dad and me. Little did we know then that much more was in store for us the next day.

On Sunday morning, I got up early at 9 am to the news of an email alert that had been sent from one “Eric House” in Chembur (and my aunt’s place was just that!!!) and to our astonishment, the person (Mr. M. N. Kamath) whose insecured Wi-Fi network was used to send that email was none other than my uncle’s dad’s cousin.  What came to my mind suddenly was the open insecured Wi-Fi network that I had at my Adyar flat. We have it switched on almost 24/7. Phew! The whole of Sunday was an ordeal for the entire Kamath family and my Uncle’s dad with the cops. I had been to the area where Eric House was, but was not allowed near, and it was also decidiously covered with cops and reporters, police jeeps and OB vans. I was back at home in no time right in front of the idiot box to follow up on that.

Meanwhile on the other side, a ship with 18 Indian crew members was hijacked in Somalia…and their demands, phew….nearly 7 crores INR…I was kidding with my cousin, saying that it must again be one of us only (a Konkani speaking bloke) since 7 is considered lucky by us…for some GOD damn reason!! 😀 What to say, the pirates are weird psychos!!!

In the evening, took part in a Ganapati Visarjan procession too but sadly could not get pics as no photography was allowed due to security reasons. Surprisingly I was asked not to click pics in both the shopping malls I visited…and I didn’t feel like going to any other mall after that. And the famous Mumbai rains showered its blessings on me and by the time I got home, I was all drenched. And the nut in me loved it!!

Monday morning we left Mumbai for Pune…to visit my aunt (dad’s sis) and cousins…and I utilized this opportunity to meet a few of our beloved Ch1 Pune Bloggers (a photo-blog on this one will follow soon! :)). It was a great feeling to meet them all in person, after having known them for over a year just by their blogs and names. In the excitement of meeting them all, I even forgot that I was on an anti-biotics (which were battling with the virus within me) course…period. Weather in Pune was pleasant…with periodic drizzles but the night was very cold.

By Tuesday evening, we were back in Mumbai welcomed by the pouring rains only to reach home all drenched. It was the last thing I wanted to happen on a vacation, to fall ill. And this rain was just the right doze that I needed to hit the sick bed. Wednesday went off “silently” trying to persuade the virus to let go of me…I must say, it was lenient enough not to sap into my energy levels. There was no fever, but there was no voice coming out of my vocal chord too…I learnt the sign language to an extent on that day…the same day that Lehmann Brothers declared bankruptcy leading to the downfall of the markets, including our ever-ready-to-fall Sensex (the Indian stock exchange)!!

Almost the entire Bangladesh Cricket team decided to join ICL, the (so called – by BCCI) rebel Cricket league. Inspite of having resigned from his Bangladesh Contract, Habibul Bashar was foolish enough to quote that he expected to play for the Bangladesh National team irrespective of having signed the ICL contracts for a staggering $200,000 per year for the next 3 years. Sadly two evenings later, he seemed to be shocked at Bangladesh Cricket board’s decision to present him (and other ICL joinees) with a 10 yr ban.

Thursday, there was no rain and inside me, no pain. It was time for some shopping as well as for some relative-visits. We were 6 hours on the roads of Mumbai (Crawford Market, Linking Road, Santacruz, Andheri, etc) and 2 hours at 2 houses…to come back home late in the evening all happy, tired and dead.

Friday looked happy and beautiful with the light drizzles till about mid-day when the news of an encounter in Delhi rattled all peace. 30 minutes of firing…2 militants dead, one caught and 2 escaped…2 policemen severely injured, of which the constable survived and the inspector sucummbed to injuries on Saturday. The people in Jamia Nagar where the encounter and firing happened blamed the police saying the encounter was fake…but if it was fake, why would any police inspector give up his life?? And in fake encounters, no AK-47s are recovered from “students”. The people also had complaints as to why the police chose close to prayer time on Jumma – a Friday – in the Ramazan period to carry out the encounter. Did they forget that the blasts took place in the holy period of Ramzan??? Hats off to those ppl…Idiots!!!

Saturday as I landed at home in Bangalore, I was relieved that nothing much had happened this day….only to be made aware of the twin bomb blasts at Islamabad in Pakistan which killed and injured several innocent people including quite a number of foreign nationals…Sigh!!

On reaching home at Chennai, I got to do something about the Wi-Fi security…the last thing I would want is to be caught for some wrong and unsuspected thing!! Though I wouldnt mind the appearing-on-the-television jig…good or bad, publicity always helps!! 😉

From last Saturday to this one, from the Delhi blasts to the Islamabad one, from being in Mumbai to being back at home…it has been one long sad sick week…a week that wasn’t weak, but full of energy. Hmm…

Of RGV, Web2.0, MIB-Cricket and Sun-Sign Predictions!!;)

Ram Gopal Verma (RGV) is back with his new movie “Phoonk” which got released last friday…Last heard (with RGV, you never know! 😉 ), it’s a movie about superstitions and is supposedly under the “Horror” genre of movies. Being the creative one, RGV promised to pay Rs. 5 lakh (500,000) as a prize to that person who would watch Phoonk in a theatre ‘ALL ALONE’. As per RGV, Phoonk is a horror movie of the kind that will-for-sure get on to the nerves and hence he threw open this challenge which ended on 18th August. One brave soul took up this challenge and is believed to have come out of the theatre in half an hour flat.

Now the question is, was Phoonk that scaringly spooky or was it simply unbearable (remember RGV’s Aag?? 😛 )???? YOU NEVER KNOW…If anyone among you have taken up the challenge to even watch Phoonk, Let me know your thoughts!! 🙂

BTW, heard that another brave soul in Bangalore has decided to watch Phoonk tonight at 10 all alone at INOX and he has booked the entire 225+ seater for himself by paying close to INR 48K!! All the best to him, and to RGV too…hehe!! 😉
I have not watched this movie yet (and don’t know if I will) but I certainly won’t be watching it alone, like I did the last time with RGV’s Sarkar Raj!! Period. 😈

*************************************************************************************

What the Newspaper Article made me aware this weekend:

Web2.0 or the social networking/user-generated content era is the latest to take over the virtual world. But do we have the Cyber law to curb the misuse of the technology?
The article gave an example (most probably, a real one) of a teen gal getting to know a guy online through one or more of the various social networking mediums (mostly Chat sites) and then how she unsuspectedly gets entangled into the trap of sexual predators which finally leads/forces her to commit suicide.

Questions asked were:
1) Should not our lawmakers analyse the impact Web2.0 has on society and prescribe educational programmes for teenagers as well as educate individuals, mainly the teachers and parents of teenagers about the possible dangers of social networking?
2) Do we have a legal system to deliver justice to people like the teen gal in the above said instance or even to book the guy?

What’s your take on this?

On one side, we see and experience the many advantages that Web2.0 has to offer us to build and maintain a social network, but on the other side, we have certain elements which bug the entire possibility of a clean virtual environment.
Now with the social interaction going to be boosted up soon with the arrival of Web3.0, I guess its time for the law makers to put the laws into ‘real’ action.!!

What are the Indian Cricketers up to?? Man…they seem to be so confused with the whole process of playing cricket of different formats. With T20 totals in One-day matches and One-day totals in Test Matches, they seem to be heading no where. Moreover the fear factor in them about the tactics of the Lankan spin duo of Mendis and Murali seems to be reaching greater heights match after match. No idea what happened to the idea of Indians being better players of spin bowling!! Sigh!

The Men-In-Blue (MIB) are known to make heroes out of puppets…Remember the West Indian Franklin Rose? That chap got hammered and clobbered around the park at the hands of other teams whereas he came up with a 5-wkt-haul, each time he played against us. Ok…Remember Aaqib Javed, the Pakistani speedstar?? He was specially played only against the Indians and each time we didn’t disappoint the Pakistani selectors as we gifted him a bunch of wickets just like in a promised package deal! 😉
The list continues…and so does the ‘fear factor’ of our well-nourished, well-branded and well-advertised cricketers. Hmmph!

I have always been a Taurean, I have always read the sun-sign predictions and I have been amazed by the indifferences between what is on paper and what actually happens, always.

Check this out…this was last Saturday:
1) Good day to share work and responsibility with your peers: Sadly such things are said about me only on weekends! 😉
2) Accidental benefits are indicated: I didn’t understand this clearly until a bus just whisked past the car when I was driving…My Dad who was in the front seat, yelled (am still not sure, it was at me or the bus driver!!) though this wasn’t indicated!! 😀
3) Your love life will be good: Ahem…he didn’t know I was single, did he? Hmmph! 😳
4) Don’t give into emotional pressures when making financial decisions: Early morning as I reached Bangalore, my cousin called up to remind me of the pending treat I had to give him! I have been evading him for more than 2 months, but the emotions finally got over me and I agreed to his request. So Sue’s Garden (A Caribbean Restaurant in Indiranagar, Bangalore) it is for lunch on Sunday…Ms. Sue, here we come! 😀

Of Kite-Runner, Evam, Choco-Truffle and Bessie-Beach!! ;)

Yipppppppeeeeeeeee……yesterday evening I finished reading Khaled Hosseini’s ‘Kite Runner’…If you ask me as to why I am happy and excited?? Well…the book was gifted to me by a dear friend for my birthday in April…so May, June, July and now August…it’s taken me 4 good months to finish off this book!! Now tell me how can I not be happy? 😛
Not that I had not found time to sit and read…but there have been distractions lately that have taken a higher priority than reading…gone are those days when I used to skip my goodnight sleep, breakfast, lunch, afternoon nap, snacks and dinner in order to complete the book in hand (yes you are right, am damn slow at reading)…blame the internet and the close proximity to the Bessie Beach!! 😉

Yipppppppeeeeeeeee……I completed watching the movie ‘Kite Runner’ this early morning. I had downloaded a rip of the movie more than a month ago, but had waited to complete the book before I watched the movie. I actually began watching the movie just after finishing the book yesterday, but then my roomy made me an offer I couldn’t refuse…Bessie Beach!! 😛 And then I was tired by the time I got back…but chatted sensibly about all nonsensical things with a friend of mine in the US before she reminded me that it was quite late back home in India…I didn’t realize that it was already past 12, so said an alvida to her and then slept off!! But the fact that I had left the movie incomplete was playing somewhere in the mind I guess…believe it or not (this am saying to myself), I got up at 5 30 this morning and completed the movie before going back to sleep at 6 45am!! 😀
I next opened my eyes around 11am when a friend woke me up by calling on my cell and she yelled at me for forgetting to pay her internet bill…she reminded that today was the last day to do that…my bill had to be paid too…I stood in the wrong queue for about 45 minutes before I got to know that it was a cash payment queue…now who has cash? (Not me…my answer)…then I stood another 20 mins in the card payment line…sigh!

Yipppppppeeeeeeeee……this noon I had been to a theatre play by a group called Evam…they brought to life a play called “Odd Couple”…I went alone…but met 3 colleagues over there and we had a good time at the play!! 🙂
Though originally written by Neil Simon, the 8 characters on stage bring it to life…full of emotions, ups and downs…It was all about 2 friends Oscar and Felix who are the odd couple that share an apartment and thats it…they had absolutely nothing else in common…its about how they deal with their lives, how they comfort each other in their own ways, how their friends react meanwhile, how this and how that…It was simply awesome, in places…and brilliant, otherwise…and in Karthik’s (the lead actor who played Oscar) words, “If you missed it, you just missed it!”! 😉

Yipppppppeeeeeeeee……I was longing to have the chocolate pastries from the nearest cake shop in Adyar called Cake World since quite some time…had no company each time…but today I gave an ultimatum to my roomies to accompany me…though they didn’t eat (I can’t believe they said no…shame shame guys), I had my fill on Chocolate Truffle…yummmmmy….and ya, the speech on calories have been postponed to tomorrow!! 😉

Yipppppppeeeeeeeee……my roomy just asked the inevitable question “Bessie Beach now…what say?”…its always cool and fun to go there late this night…chalo…till next time, signing off! 🙂

Independent Rants!! Echooos me!! ;)

2008, 14th August, 10:45pm IST: I somewhat do have a mixed feeling as of now…as I sit this late waiting for India to turn 61, I understand the fact that I am not Chacha Nehru, to  make a speech at the stroke of midnight when the whole of world is sleeping…as I digest this, I decide to atleast write what I feel about!! Who is gonna read, well that’s a cool question that pops up in the mind…hmm…must be by mistake….suddenly I remember that I don’t remember the thoughts that I had just thought to write…what a tragedy! I shall ponder and get back…sigh…but when you read this, you need not wait, cos I’m gonna continue right below….sigh…ya sigh again!!

11:23pm: Ah! Here I come…with my thoughts loaded….ya so India is gonna make it to 61 in about 37 minutes from now…if at all 12 midnight is considered to be the time it was delivered into the hands of us Indians by the Britishers! What a proud moment it would have been for those in the parliament, as Chacha was making that historic speech…I sometimes get this feeling that I must have been one of the men sitting in the audience listening to that speech, sans blinking or even dropping an eyelid or two….which one of those men was I, well…I have no clue nor do I have the memory to sustain such historic pre-birth or rather previous-birth information/data. Echoos me, for that matter I can hardly remember things that have happened in this current shot at living life. Sigh!

So ya…I am feeling an emotional cocktail yes, about Indian Independence (yipppppeeee) as well as its post-independence growth (hmmm….sigh!)!!
What have I done?, asks my right brain which is supposed to be the intelligent one…
What can I do?, adds my left one, which is stupid but is trying to add logic in its own darn manner!! 😉
What do I want to do?, asks the right one again not giving up…
Who will allow me to do?, asks the left thereby successfully negating the right’s claim to intellectual excellence. Sigh!!

I didn’t get tickets to go home…to Bangalore…this being a long weekend…am stuck at Chennai…but no worries cos am not on antidepressants as I’ll anyway be going home the next two weekends… yippppppeeeeeeee…am excited to death, nah!! I’m just casual towards it…sigh!

It’s my friend’s birthday tomorrow…15th…I don’t know if I can wish her…we are not that cordial anymore…though we are trying to patch up things, but its just being stupid to believe that the old days would be back again, cos we both know that it will just not be the same again, ever….well…let me mail her…atleast…I can’t even expect her to reply back, acknowledging my wishes…its not that bad a situation, but its still not the good one…hoping to improve it from here, but only time will tell…sigh!!

I am keeping a low profile and mingling amidst my guy friends…staying away from the gal pals…nah…don’t worry, am still the same…straight…just that this coming saturday happens to be Raksha Bandhan (for those who don’t know, this is a suicidal festival in India…where women tie threads to the hand of men thereby making them their brothers…no winking – for instance – allowed anymore, and you would think twice even before blinking! Sigh!) and I plan to park myself at an undisclosed location (where eh…will tell ya on sunday! 😛 )!! 😉 Who wants to be a brother just like that, by the tying of the thread and moreover it digs a hole into the purse as well which competes with vacuum right throughout the year….independent of cash, and even chillar (change…pennies…dimes…whatever)!! A BiiiiiIgggggG SiiiiiiIggggggH!! Hmmm….

11:48pm: Another 12 minutes to go on my system clock before it strikes 12…I feel I can hear that gathering in the parliament….people occupying their seats…getting ready to see history being created…Chacha Nehru smiles at Ms. Mountbatten (I guess she was the one seated there, not sure…my memory beckons me to confirm) as he adjusts his overcoat and gives final touches to the rose on his coat and his head-gear (a cap)!! I am somewhere in the last benches (well I guess, being the lord of last benches is common in every birth…a happy sigh! 😀 ) lifting my head high to get a glimpse of our Chacha stealing a sight of the beauty in Lady Mountbatten (if it was who she is) while he readied himself adjusting the microphone as he took his stand behind the portable podium…lucky guy, said my mind…slowly as the clock approached towards midnight 12, a nervous silence started to take over the gibberish gossip-mongers around me…and eventually as the entire gathering observed pin-drop silence when the clock struck the dark (k)night hour of 12, I was sitting there with my dumb head lifted high and with all possible deeply cocktailed feelings. Sigh!

1947, 15th August, 12:00 midnight: “Long years ago we made a tryst with destiny, and now the time comes when we shall redeem our pledge, not wholly or in full measure, but very substantially. At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom………………………..JAI HIND.”, that was Chacha Nehru, who with all poise and calm delivered what was the most wonderful speech I had ever heard…history was created right in front of my eyes….and my eyes were all tearful, and I could not stop the tears….you see there were no tissues in use then, sigh!!

2008, 15th August, 12:08am: Coming back…ya back to the future…I can’t remember who I was back then…anyways I am still that emotional person who uses tissues (ya to wipe tear gland leaks…then what?) now…can’t call myself patriotic, but I did pin a tri-color this whole day to my shirt pocket while in office…did eat tri-colored pooris that they offered in the cafeteria at lunch…did forward a patriotic mail to a few friends…did wish “Happy Indian Independence” and “Enjoy the long weekend” to a few colleagues…did escape (freedom you see) from the sights of my manager and came home early…ya I am still that same person…and I still can’t remember who I was back then…sigh!!

I somewhat do have a mixed feeling as of now…well, but I now know where I gotta go to relieve that feeling…sigh!! 😉

Anways before I sign off…Happy Birthday India…Have a great year ahead…hope you bleed less, and prosper more…take care of yourself, and that should take care of us!! 😀

Corporate life – of Anger, Peace and Friends!!

Recently I got pissed off (and I still am…lookz like will be) with a corporate friend whom I got to know just a few weeks ago. Why was that? What did happen? I certainly don’t have the reason to put down here as to why and how that happened with her. I don’t even have the reason as to how I can restore that faith when it comes to her regarding something as divine as friendship. Even now I feel that I gave it all to make things work out inspite of all the differences and difficulties that came in the name of adjustments. But she feels otherwise. And when the initial expectations from her end started giving rise to accusations and finger pointing, I just couldn’t handle the stuff any long. I had to end it, and end it soon.

Basically I am a very down to earth, peace-loving animal. Yes I am just like that, but said and done I am still an animal. And animals get wild when it comes to 2 things – Anger & Hunger (all kinds! ;))!!
Until and unless the lid blows the so-called ‘limits of control’, I am peaceful and very patient. It would take special talent from the people on the other side to actual make me go wild and behave like an animal.
I believe more in giving rather than otherwise when it comes to friends and family, but I still do have my shortcomings. People sometimes tend to take my easy going, happy-go-lucky nature for granted. And that is exactly when they get to know the other side of me. The other side of me is something which even I don’t like very much. I have been taking pains to keep it under control as well as wraps and behave as normal as possible. Candidly, for the records I have been on the other side of my behaviour just about 3 times in the last 30 months which is infact very good if you ask me “How were you prior to those 30 months?”. And each time that it went out of control, it was just cos I was provoked.
But each time I have been lucky to have someone or the other to pull me back to my normal self. They have made me understand that anger gets on to you, only if you hold on to the thing that makes you angry. So it is better to let go of the things which or the people who make you angry. I do just that now-a-days, as I just let go of them. I thank those blessed souls, for being there for me, forever. 🙂

It was just the beginning of the year 2006. Those were my early days in corporate life and I had been fortunate to get a break into one of the most advanced and currently in-demand technology of SAP. My first project was for a prestigious client in the consumer goods sector and I had been in upbeat mood after getting to know the clientele and the lady manager I would be working for/under. But the one thing I didn’t know or rather hadn’t been exposed to was the politics that goes on within a team/project.
We were 3 freshers (first project for all of us) who were inducted into this project under a BeeTCH of a Team-Lead (TL). And apart from the manager there was one more gentleman by name, Jai who had close to about 12-13 years of industry and IT experience. Jai was one cool-headed person and more of a friend/guide/philosopher to the 3 of us, than a senior member of the team.
Before this TL had taken over, there was another foolish guy who was our TL and he was as efficient as owls are during the daytime. Me being a fresher had given him 45 mins of philosophical pep-talk on how to conduct himself, before he was branded inefficient-cum-useless and eventually chucked out of the team (he quit a year ago after getting bad ratings due to his pathetic performances).
Then came the Beetch…she was the kind who preferred to bark more than bite…and she proved the quote “Barking dogs seldom bite” just right. She just couldn’t bite. And she had not an iota of an idea that I was the biting kind who could even bark given a chance. This female had the heart to take all the credit (we had no problems when she did this) for the good performance that we guys put in and also had the guts to point fingers at us (We did have problems now) when something went wrong from her side. One not-so-good-evening (for her) it so happened that she blamed us for no fault of ours and that was about 3 months after she had taken over. My lid blew off and the other guys seemed relieved at this juncture, as if they had been waiting long enough for this to happen. I called her (through Jai ofcourse) to the conference room and gave her my piece of mind for over an hour during which I must say, she gave a good fight arguing the best way she possibly could. And all this happened in the presence of Jai. I was representing the guys and Jai was the mediator. The only advantage on my side being my capability to talk fluently in English!!
After our showdown (which was halted by the formation of crocodile tears in the glands of the beetch), Jai gave a 60-40 verdict in our favour and we were satisfied by it, but not happy. She was asked to calm down (by Jai…whom didja think? :P) and sent out to get refreshed. It was then my turn to get a hearing from the cool-headed Jai. The best part was that he gave me my space to reason out the cause of my hyper behaviour. When we came out 20 mins later, I was a cool person with a smile on my face. Jai was instrumental in giving me some tips that is needed to survive the corporate pressures and work-life challenges. I am obliged to him for his timely advices. I have learnt to deal things a lot better and now I understand the way to be politically correct in a corporate world. DIPLOMACY is the word! 😀
Btw, the beetch was released 4-5 months before the project culminated (and we guys went on to manage the show till the end) and she went on to screw-up a critical project next, the result of which she was asked to quit before she would be given the pink slip.

This time round it so happened that I got to know this lady through our internal corporate blogging platform. Seven weeks ago, I got a  mail from her letting me know how she liked the versatile topics I chose to write on and particularly the manner in which I wrote. I acknowledged that mail with my usual ever enthusiastic reply, not knowing that it could lead to more things to come. This reply of mine lead to more mail interactions which further led into exchange of cell phone numbers, friend-request on Orkut and daily chatting on the office communicator. I didn’t object her messaging me as well as calling me too. I called a few times too cos she said “You never call me, its only me who calls you!”. Now she liked to hear me talk (she said this to me, and I am not assuming). For people who don’t know me, I talk a lot but only when I have a topic or matter and time at my disposal. But this friend just wanted to listen to my talk whenever she was free, and irrespective of whether I was in office or in the loo. And when I said, “That’s it yaar…there’s nothing more for today”, she used to say in a low-n-sad tone “So you don’t wanna talk to me? Why are you so silent these days?” and that too in the 68th minute of the call (damn the free CUG)!!
I even met her 2 weeks ago at her request (had to hear her say “so you don’t wanna meet me eh?” quite a few times before that, when I postponed the meet due to my other commitments) and that was the last day we ever talked in peace. For some unknown reason she preferred to keep silent for the next 2 days (she had done the same some 3-4 weeks back when she told me that she preferred 5 days of sheer silence and that I could call/message her if I want to (and that I did not)…again for reasons best known to her….she called it ‘drawing the line’; the line which I had never seen before or after the silence and it doesn’t make sense even now as I write this!) only to get back with “Why didn’t you tell me about your promotion?”….Now what was she trying to do here? When asked why, she went on give me reasons like “I didn’t like what you have put on your Orkut profile…it shows you have got this attitude”, “What’s that note on your communicator…I don’t like it”…It had just blown my fuse all over again.
What is her problem in me writing anything on my Orkut profile or the communicator note? If she didn’t like it, she should have stopped visiting my orkut page every hour and even stopped pinging me on the communicator every alternate minute asking me what I was up to! You are FIRED!! Gimme a BREAK!!!
I just didn’t want to adjust that day. I didn’t want my day to be spoiled by such immature behaviour of this gal that I preffered to let go of her rather than get angry or swear at her for reasons best known to her. It just didn’t make any sense at all to do all that, and letting go of her was the best thing I could do and think of at that moment. And I did just that by remaining silent though she tried out various methods and means to reach me – inspite of my innumerable requests not to do so. I told her not to call or message me anymore though she did just that, that whole day trying to understand the mess she had got herself into. By the way she had behaved that evening, I was sure that if I had said something in anger she wouldn’t have been able to cope with it. So it was best for me to let her go just like that. I was just not worth to be her friend. I am putting my papers down with respect to you and moving on, so should you (in case you read this and understand that I am talking about you…this is not a fictional story at all!! Hmmph!!)!!!
All this while I was helped by my good buddy DJ to keep me calm and not to over react inspite of the things that seemed to be clearly going the wrong way!! I am obliged to her for bearing me all the while and being ever ready to listen to all the rubbish happenning in my life at this juncture. “Friends are like dustbins…where you can dump all your good and bad feelings/thoughts” is something which DJ now helps me in seeing some sense into (by dustbin, not in the literal sense, dumbos!!). Thank you buddy! 😀

All said and done, life takes us on a roller-coaster ride…how we hold on to it without falling is all that matters!! And in the friends and well-wishers like the Jai’s and DJs, it seems like they are the only sensible coolants in my otherwise nonsensical LIFE!! 😀
